Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and the holiest month for Muslims around the world. During this blessed month, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, increase their prayers, recite the Holy Quran, and perform acts of charity. Ramadan is also a time of spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and gratitude. In Saudi Arabia, Ramadan is observed with great devotion, and millions of worshippers gather in Makkah and Madinah to perform Umrah and special Taraweeh prayers. Families come together for Suhoor and Iftar, creating a strong sense of community.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and is one of the most joyful celebrations in Islam. Muslims begin the day by offering the special Eid prayer, followed by family gatherings, festive meals, and charitable giving through Zakat al-Fitr. In Saudi Arabia, mosques and public spaces are filled with worshippers celebrating this blessed occasion. Families visit relatives, exchange gifts, and spend time together in a spirit of gratitude and unity.

Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his willingness to obey Allah’s command. It is celebrated on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah during the Hajj pilgrimage. Muslims who are financially able perform Qurbani (animal sacrifice) and distribute the meat among family members, friends, and those in need. In Saudi Arabia, Eid al-Adha is celebrated with large congregational prayers and acts of generosity.

Hajj is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and is an obligation for every Muslim who is physically and financially able to perform it at least once in their lifetime. Every year, millions of Muslims travel to Makkah to complete this sacred pilgrimage. Pilgrims perform a series of religious rituals, including Tawaf around the Kaaba, Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, standing at Arafah, and the symbolic stoning of the pillars at Mina.

The Day of Arafah is considered one of the most sacred days in Islam. It takes place on the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah, one day before Eid al-Adha. During Hajj, pilgrims gather on the plain of Arafah to pray and seek Allah’s forgiveness. Muslims who are not performing Hajj are encouraged to fast on this day, as it is believed to erase the sins of the previous and coming year by the mercy of Allah.

Ashura is observed on the 10th day of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar. This day holds great significance in Islamic history, remembering the deliverance of Prophet Musa (AS) and his followers. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ recommended fasting on the Day of Ashura, along with the day before or after it, as a voluntary act of worship and reflection.

The Islamic New Year begins with the first day of Muharram, the opening month of the Hijri calendar. This occasion commemorates the historic migration (Hijrah) of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from Makkah to Madinah, marking the start of the Islamic calendar. It offers Muslims an opportunity to reflect on faith, set spiritual goals, and thank Allah for another year.

Mawlid al-Nabi commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ on the 12th day of Rabi al-Awwal. Many Muslims observe this occasion by studying the life of the Prophet ﷺ, reading the Quran, sending blessings (Salawat), and reflecting on his teachings of mercy, honesty, and compassion across the Muslim world.

Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Power, is one of the holiest nights in Islam, occurring during the last ten nights of Ramadan. Described in the Quran as “better than a thousand months,” Muslims spend the night in prayer, Quran recitation, and supplication. Mosques in Saudi Arabia, especially in Makkah and Madinah, remain filled with worshippers seeking forgiveness.
